Known for her emotive vocal delivery and genre-fluid songwriting, Angie Colman returns with ‘Rome’, a deeply introspective new single set for release on Friday, 1 May.

Both intimate and expansive, ‘Rome’ signals a compelling new chapter for the Boorloo/ Perth artist as she continues to refine her voice and push her songwriting into more personal, unguarded territory.

A poignant reflection on expectation, self-worth, and the quiet pressure of time, Colman continues to carve out a distinct space within Australia’s indie landscape. Blending elements of folk, rock, and indie,  with subtle nods to country and punk, ‘Rome’ draws sonic inspiration from artists such as Pinegrove and Waxahatchee, leaning into a conversational, melody-driven style that feels both intimate and immediate.

At its core, ‘Rome’ is a meditation on feeling left behind while others chase seemingly bigger lives. Speaking on the track, Colman shares:

“Rome was something that I wrote after a friend had told me he was moving to New York to pursue a very interesting and exciting life. I have always struggled with feeling like I’m not getting enough out of this short time on Earth and like I was falling behind in many ways. I spent several long weeks trying to remind myself that it’s okay to be where I am, it’s okay if my life doesn’t look how i expected it to. ‘I wasn’t built in a day’ was a personal reminder to this.”

Recorded live in a single day alongside producer Ryan Brennan, ‘Rome’ captures a raw and unfiltered energy. The live-tracked approach marks a departure from her usual layered process, resulting in a performance that feels spontaneous and emotionally immediate.

“It was recorded last year with the wonderful Ryan Brennan who did the rest of the album, and it’s a very special one as we recorded it in a day, and live tracked it, unlike the rest of the songs that were all built. That was a really special experience for me and it was one of those days that remind me why I love making music. It’s also the first song that I’ve ever had anyone else sing on. You’ll hear one of my closest friend and band mate, Willow Fearns, on the backing vocals in this track.”

Since emerging in 2021, Angie Colman has become a staple of the Western Australian music scene, earning multiple WAM nominations, securing government funding support, and winning the RAC Arena Limelight Award. Her music has resonated strongly on community radio, landing her in RTRFM’s top ten most played artists for three consecutive years. Following the release of her debut EP ‘How Do I Make My Life Slow Down?’  in 2025, ‘Rome’ marks the beginning of a new chapter, with more music to come throughout 2026.
